Meet Dr. Ray
Ray Wisniewski, DC — Chiropractor, Innovator, Pittsburgh Original
From a condemned $80/month apartment in Iowa to over a million patient visits in his Pittsburgh hometown — Dr. Ray’s story is one of relentless service, radical innovation, and a lifelong refusal to accept that “managing symptoms” is the best medicine can do.
I Grew Up Right Here. And I Never Left.
Hi, I’m Dr. Ray Wisniewski, and I want to thank you for taking the time to learn about who I am — not just professionally, but personally. Because I’ve always believed you should know the person you’re trusting with your health.
I grew up in Penn Hills — the very same community where I’ve practiced for over 40 years. I attended Washington Elementary School, eventually moved to Plum Borough, and graduated from Plum Senior High School. I was the first person on either side of my family to go to college. That wasn’t an accident — it was something my parents instilled in me from the time I could walk. They told me I was going to be something, and I believed them.
In high school, I became the first student from my school ever to compete in the National Junior Academy of Science — and we won first place in the state on our very first attempt. I also played football, volleyball, and ran track. And I had one genuinely unusual sport I excelled at: table tennis. I was one of the top young players in the country, trained with 5-time U.S. Champion Danny Seemiller, and competed in the Eastern United States Open — where I lost to the U.S. champion.
“My parents couldn’t afford much. I ate generic rice and peanut butter for most meals. My apartment was $80 a month. And then one day, I came home to find it condemned.”
I completed two years at the University of Pittsburgh with exceptional grades, then enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa — the founding college of the profession. Those years shaped everything. I was truly broke. My apartment was $80 a month including utilities — and I was still barely making it work on rice and peanut butter. Then came the day I returned from class to find crime scene tape across my door and a bright fluorescent poster: DO NOT ENTER — THIS BUILDING HAS BEEN CONDEMNED.
Everything I owned was in there. After some pleading, the county let me in to collect my things. My last year of school, I became a boarder in the home of a 92-year-old woman, Mrs. Kable. The final months, a classmate took me in — his apartment had a fireplace, a deck, and a pool. It felt like heaven. He charged me $120 a month including utilities because that’s what good people do. I’ve never forgotten that, and I try to treat every patient with that same generosity of spirit.
I graduated near the top of my class. I could have practiced anywhere. I chose Penn Hills. Because that’s home.
The Best Day of My Life.
For Two Reasons.
January 22, 1983 was the day I opened my very first practice — 130 Jefferson Road, Penn Hills. My friends had organized a night out to celebrate. After work, I went to meet them.
And then I saw her. The most beautiful and amazing woman I had ever seen in my life. I was shy back then — genuinely shy — but I couldn’t stop myself from walking over and saying hello. Our conversation never seemed to end. When my friends came to tell me it was time to celebrate, I made what I still consider one of the wisest decisions of my life: I told them to go without me.
From that night on, Lori and I have been inseparable. She is my rock. My everything. And the person who, nearly every time a patient walked out our door, inspired me to be better. We’ve been married for over 38 incredible years.
First practice at 130 Jefferson Rd. — then the state condemned the building to change an intersection, giving Dr. Ray just 10 days to move.
Moved to Laketon Rd., then in 1995 purchased his current Penn Hills building — the one that’s become a Pittsburgh landmark.
Lori and Dr. Ray would stay in the office all day, often not leaving until 10pm. Patients from that very first year — Chuck Rihn, Jacob Dickerson, the Brinzer family — are still patients today.
First patient: Audrey Lyden. Second and third: Tom Butler and Carolyn Pryor. “I think of my early patients often. I’m very grateful they had faith in me from day one.”
“He Releases the Power That God Put Inside the Body.”
One Sunday morning in church, Dr. Ray noticed a woman walking in backwards — her head was completely turned around and she couldn’t move it. He knew instantly she was subluxated. His wife Lori nudged him: “You can help her. You have to tell her.”
Dr. Ray caught up with her after the service and blurted out — perhaps not his most graceful moment — “Ma’am, what’s wrong with you?” The people nearby were mortified. But he explained who he was and told her he was confident he could help.
Her doctors had told her she would be a “vegetable.” Rita came anyway. Her friends organized a carpool. And she became one of Dr. Ray’s most celebrated patients.
“Dr. Ray is my Miracle Doctor and I love him dearly. If it wasn’t for Dr. Ray, I’d be the ‘vegetable’ that the other doctors said I’d be.”
— Rita F.
Peg Melichar said that nearly every visit after turning 92. She passed shortly before her 95th birthday — not after years of decline, but after a long healthspan. A full, active, beautiful life.
— Peg Melichar, Patient
“God has really blessed me and my office, and has really used us over the years. There is nothing outside your body as powerful as the power that God put inside your body.”
— Dr. Ray Wisniewski, DC

When you’ve practiced for over 40 years, you accumulate something no award can capture: gratitude. I have been privileged to know patients like Peg Melichar, who lived a full, energetic life until just before her 95th birthday. Patients like Rita, who was told she’d be a vegetable and isn’t. Patients like Darryl, whose career and life I watched be restored — not by medication, but by the body doing exactly what it was designed to do when the interference is removed.
I often think of those who’ve passed. Ed Martony, who would inspect every table to make sure nothing would break, and who could fix anything. I miss him every single day. Unfortunately, when you’ve been in practice as long as I have, many patients you loved deeply have gone on to a better place. I am grateful and honored to have been part of their journeys.
This is not just a practice. It’s a mission. And it continues every single day — in chiropractic, in weight loss, in the FOXP3 Protocol, in FoodPharmacy, in every innovation I’ve built and every one still to come. There is nothing outside your body as powerful as the power that God put inside your body. My job is simply to help you access it.
“I hope you join me in making this a mission to transform the health and lives of this planet. I am here to serve YOU.”
